The Foundry invites you to come out on First Friday September 6th, 5:00pm to 9:00pm, to view four installations of art work!

First up is our second month exhibiting a collection of watercolor pieces by Duane Anderson. The photo realism quality of his paintings is unreal! If you missed last month you have another chance to see them! He also has giclee prints of his works available.

Secondly, The Foundry's monthly members show presents "Autumn." Foundry members were challenged to submit works using primarily Autumn/fall colors. We have an amazing collection of art work this month including glass, photography and paintings.

In the 1950’s a new version of country music was founded and named “The Bakersfield Sound,” in response to the Nashville sound of that era. The best known artists are Buck Owens and the Buckaroos and Merle Haggard and the Strangers, however we have a solid list of influential musicians who played an important role in the development of the new genre of music.

The Foundry made a hit list of musicians from the era and assigned them to artist friends of the gallery. Each artist was given the name of a musician and asked to create a portrait for the show. Participating artists in assigned order: Alan Willis, Alan Urquhart, Betty Leonor, Christina Sweet, Debbie Nava Korhonen, Jessica McEuen, Brynia Harris-Czubko, Rubia Dalbosco van Roodselaar, Patti Doolittle, Gordon Skalski , Gary Sutherland, Nancy Putney and Jason Stewart.  Along with the portrait pieces, The Foundry will display photography supplied by both Ray Urquhart and William J Saunders from the Billy Mize collection, by Wren Tidwell (daughter of Wynn Stewart) and by the Bill Woods family.

This exhibit will run from June through July, 2013 at The Foundry at 1608 19th Street, Bakersfield CA. The art receptions for this exhibit will be held on both First Friday’s June 7th and July 5th, 2013, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. We welcome the general public to attend. There is no fee to view the exhibit. There will be a no host beer and wine station and live music at both receptions. On June 7th musicians Therese Muller and Vince Galindo will perform throughout the night. At the July 5th reception Olen Taylor and Ernie Lewis of The Fruit Tramps will perform.

"Beyond Perception” - A Fine Art Exhibit by David Cook

This First Friday May 3rd, The Foundry will open a solo painting exhibition by David Cook.

Quoting the artist, much of his imagery comes from natural or urban places. He is drawn to geometric shapes, structure and the play of color and light within this environment. His urban landscape paintings transcend our perception of landmark buildings by simplifying their structure. He likes working in gouache and allowing the medium to convey an opaque, flat appearance, emphasizing the two dimensions of paper or canvas. Using color triads, he works within a prismatic pallet to create a harmonious composition.

More about our artist:

David Cook received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies with a minor in Art from Cal State University, Bakersfield. Following two decades as an educator, his focus shifted dramatically. Recently he attended a graduate study workshop at the prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with renowned artist Stuart Shils. Cook’s studio work consists of classical drawing, abstract painting and contemporary rendering. He currently lives in the Kern River Valley with his wife and two daughters.

This exhibit will run through the month of May 2013 at The Foundry, 1608 19th Street, Bakersfield CA. The opening for this exhibit will be held on First Friday May 3rd, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. We welcome the general public to attend. There is no fee to view the exhibit.
